POST 5: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

Imagen
Music Theory has a two edged sword curriculum. On one hand, it has a vast variety of work opportunities once you graduate (well, at least if we speak about the many areas of specialization that you can learn). But, on the other hand, by being so widely oriented, you don’t get to dominate all the areas that you study. This wouldn’t be a problem if subjects weren't mandatory. If we had the chance to choose the subjects that fit in our areas of interest, the curriculum would be so accessible instead of the mess that we have now. Without counting CFG’s and sports subjects, a third year music theory student can have 9 subjects per semester. This loads a high amount of stress on students, especially if they have economic or transport problems.  Like little, the faculty is extremely small and doesn’t have enough teachers to supply the student basic demands. For example, if you are coursing a “semestral” subject and you get reprobbed, you can’t re-course it in the next semester. In...

POST 4: TIME TRAVEL TO THE PAST OR FUTURE

Imagen
I think I would like to go to the future. I don’t have a specific date to go, but maybe I would choose something between 2070-2080. I’ve chosen this range because I want to know the world’s state on these dates. I suspect that, if I choose a date in the 2100's, there’s a big chance that there’s not gonna be an actual world where I can collect the information that I need to accomplish my goal. Hopefully, in the 2070-2080’s our civilization will still exist. Specifically, I want to collect info about climate change. I don’t know what country or location I would go to. A place where I can have the mediums to get what I want to know is enough for me.  Mostly, my travel’s motivation is to know if it’s a good choice to have children. A fatherhood feeling has grown in me in recent years, but I don’t know if there’s gonna be a future where my hypothetical children can have a normal and healthy life. Sorry if this is getting too personal, but right now I need to know it. Otherwise, m...

POST 3: MY DREAM JOB

Imagen
I'm gonna be honest here: I think I’m too messy to choose one particular job to do for the rest of my life. I’m kinda a half-skilled person in a lot of disciplines (but not particularly good in any of them), but, if the universe gives me this miraculous job where money it’s never gonna be a problem anymore, I would choose to be a social media creator.  I like math and music production, and I really enjoy teaching and explaining things to other persons, so, I would like to make explanatory videos where I explain daily and mundane things with epic music and visual elements. For example: have you ever noticed how, in minimarkets, cashiers ask you if you have “200 pesos”? Well, I’ve imagined funny and easy ways to explain it, and how the leftover money works in those cases. My focus would be the people who haven't enough knowledge in math, and bring them closer to the mathematics behind those mundane things. If I win the lottery tomorrow, I would start to learn visual skills and...

POST 2: BEST HOLIDAYS/CONCERT EVER

Imagen
Although I'm studying music, I'm not really a fan of massive concerts. The music usually is too loud, and I HATE standing up for more than half an hour. On the other hand, I'm such a big fan of intimate music instances.  So, for me, my favorite concert was one time when me and my friends played music in my house at a party. I really like to improvise, but not in a way that makes me the center of attention. I enjoy being a small part from a musical “whole” perspective.  At this particular time, a lot of friends came to my house. We started playing guitar and improvising funky riffs, and then we proceeded to improvise funny lyrics. I played guitar for most of the night, but everyone there changed their instruments at least one time. I’m running out of memories here. I thought it would be easier to convey the idea from a musical experience. Maybe I was too high, I don’t know. But it was an epic meeting, I can assure you that.               ...

Post 1: A country I would like to visit

Imagen
I have never been the kind of person that thinks in countries that would like to visit, BUT, recently, I have been learning a lot about Japan. I'm on a manga course, and the knowledge that I have acquired about that country has caught my interest, so... Japan is an asiatic island that has a lot of cultural influence from China. As far as I know, they were a closed-to-foreigners country that had feudal eras and an empire structure. This changed when the American empire attacked (sorry, I had to make an Avatar: The Last Airbender reference), forcing them to interchange resources, and affecting their economy. This was the precedent for manga creation, which is the reason that I would like to visit it. Japan is the birth place for manga and anime. I'm not a die hard otaku, but I really like some of their artistic creations. I can bet that there's gonna be a lot of thematic parks about a lot animes and mangas I like. As an extra, I'm a glutton. I have eaten ramen and other ...

Blog 4: A photo that's meaningful to me

Imagen
Pumi, Albo and Coli, from left to right. Last year, I tried to convince my family to adopt a homeless pregnant cat. Before they decided, she gave birth to 4 little kitties in my brother's bedroom. I took responsibility for them, although I didn’t know anything about cats. I started to learn as much as I could, and used all my money on cat food, meds and vet visits.  The first weeks, the kittens weren’t a problem; they slept all day and could barely move. But when they started to grow, oh man, it was a complete craziness. They ran all over the place, and didn’t let me sleep in a time where I was ending my academic year. I argued  many times with my parents because of that.  It was a stressful time. Despite everything, I developed a strong and deep connection with them. To see the...

Post 3: My Favorite Piece of Technology

Imagen
My favorite piece of technology is the MIDI controller. Basically, it’s an external device in which, when you play some of its keys, transfers a signal to a main device (a computer, an iPad, etc).  In my case, I have a MIDI keyboard. With it, I can play music notes and the computer receives it as information. To convert this information into music, it’s necessary to run a central software that manages secondary softwares (plugins). So, I can charge a “choir” plugin on FL Studio (my central software), and when I play notes on the keyboard, it's gonna sound like choir voices instead of piano notes.  I t’s really cool to play this way. You can play any kind of virtual instrument. It’s especially useful to produce music. I think everyone should have one. Making music is easier than people think, and it’s a lot of fun!                                             ...
